Bikali College is one of the premier institutions of higher education in the state of Assam. It is located at Dhupdhara, a small town on the National Highway 37 in the easternmost part of Goalpara District of Assam. Bikali college has a chequered history of establishment and existance. Iit s the result of the culmination of the long drawn dream and the wish and aspiration of the 52 villages of the “ Bikali Mouza”. Their relentless efforts and the missionary zeal to enlighten their children with higher education led to the establishment of this institution on 14th April in the year 1982. From a makeshift wooden and bamboo structure with only few students in Pre-University classes in Arts stream, the college has come a long way telling the stories of struggle, achievements, growth and consolidation. In the course of its growth and development, the commerce stream and science stream were introduced in the college as self-financing course in the year 2005 and 2015, respectively. The college is currently affiliated to Gauhati University and is presently offering bachelor degree courses in Arts, Science and Commerce along with post graduate Master degree courses in Assamese and Geography. In addition to these courses, the college also offered certificate courses in Higher Secondary in all the three streams under AHSEC. The Arts stream of the college was brought under Deficit Grants-in-Aid schemes of government of Assam in 1992 and subsequently it was provincialised in the year 2005. The college has also been able to receive UGC recognition of 2(f) 12(B) with effect from the 10th Plan of the UGC. Many are the sacrifices made by various organisations, institutions, establishments and individuals since inception of the institution to the present times. The name of Bikali Mouza Unnayan Samittee, a philanthropic socio-economic organisation of Bikali Mouza will always be inscripted in the history of this institution in golden letters for their pivotal role in nurturing and shaping the institution. Thus, Bikali college is a testimony to the farsighted vission of its founder and their indefatigable enthusiasm to actualize their dream.
The college has a sprawling campus spreading over an area of more than 50 acres with modern infrastructure facilities for teaching and learning. The college has, over the years build up an impressive infrastructure and is trying hard to create a student-friendly environment in the campus. ICT enabled classrooms, well-equipped computer laboratory, science laboratories, central library with internet facility, digital library, state of the art seminar and conference halls, language lab, etc are some of the teaching- earning facilities in the college through which students are exposed to have a better learning experiences in the campus. To nurture the hidden talents of students in co-curricular and extracurricular activities, the college has indoor and outdoor stadium, gymnasium halls, various literary and academic societies, NCC, NSS, Scouts & Guides., etc. Presently, the NCC unit of college has 35 cadets and another 35 cadets will be enrolled in this academic session (2021-2022). The pristine, calm and serene environment of the college is self-explanatory about its environmental consciousnes. Based on our past experiences and achievements, we firmly belief that we will definitely able to march ahead on our journey to achieve the academic excellence that the founders of the college has once dreamt.
