Year Established: 1982

The Assamese (MIL) ASL as a subject was introduced in 1982 in the T.D.C level. Founder teacher of the department were Hem Bhattacharya.After that Dr. Alpana Sarkar ,Rabindra Sarma , Dr. Malina Devi Rabha, Dr. Abala Bhuyan ,Pares Bhuyan, Bipul Kalita , Dr. Khirod Thakuriya, Dilip Rajbonshi,Dr. Habibur Rahman as a faculty members. The college has started Major course in Assamese in the year 1992 and P.G. Course in Assamese in the year 2013. Dr. Malina Devi Rabha was the Principal from Assamese department 2006 to 2020. Dr. Alpana Sarkar was the HoD from 1983 to 2018 and Dr. Abala Bhuyan from 2018 to march this year and Mrs Dipika Rabha took the charge on April/2023 as HoD of the Department.

1. To provide quality oriented teaching that may bring out the potentiality and
inspires, entrust the students to become a good human being.
2. To understanding and acknowledging Assamese language, literature culture and wisdom they can give value to their life as well as society.
3. To develop comprehensive understanding about the subject

Vision:
The department of Assamese has its mission to enable students towards a broad understanding of language, literature and culture of Assam.
