The department of History at Bikali college, Dhupdhara, was established in 1982.The
firstacademic session for B.A (Honors) started in 1998-99 and since then the department has
beenoffering Major and General courses. Thedepartment aims at academic excellence and
fostershigher education through interaction with students to impart quality education and to
encouragehistorical research.Initially the department made its journey with a limited number
of studentsbut the strength of the students and teachers gradually increased within the next
few years
andnowthedepartmentshasanintakecapacityof30students.Alargenumberofstudentsexcelledin
the Higher Secondary and Degree level over the years. The department has its
individualdepartmentallibrary. It also runs History Study Circle, formerly known
as“HistoricalSociety”. Under the banner of the
circle,workshops,seminars,groupdiscussionetc.are organized topopularizethe importance of
history study.Emphasisisalso on impartingadisciplinedvalue-basededucation.
